How To Get Rid Of Acne Scars

How to get rid of acne scars must be on your mind if acne has left prominent scars on your face, back, or any other area that was affected. If you have been affected by acne, remember that it is a medical condition that must be treated by a skin doctor, so the first thing to do is pay a visit to your nearest dermatologist.

Once you have met with the doctor and he has done a medical evaluation of your condition, there are a few acne treatments that you will be asked to consider.

First there is dermabrasion. You should know that this method has nothing to do with the process called micro-dermabrasion, used to eliminate the topmost layer of your facial skin, which consists of dead surface skin cells. Dermabrasion removes the layers even below the topmost layer, and is a much more rough method than micro-dermabrasion. First your face will be numbed, and then the layers will be removed through what is known as the ‘sanding’ process, since it will be exactly as though sandpaper was being rubbed on your face. Your skin will start scabbing, and once the scabs have fallen off, you will see new and clear skin emerging.

Or, you could try laser resurfacing, a relatively new procedure involving a laser to get rid of your acne scars. This treatment works almost the same way as dermabrasion, and the recovery time for both these treatments is around a couple of weeks at the most. If your condition is quite severe, sometimes it may be necessary to keep your face bandaged for a while after the procedure has been completed.

If your acne scars are light then a chemical peel could prove to be the solution to your problems. The dermatologist will apply different kinds of acid on your face for about 15 minutes. The recovery period depends upon the quantity of acid applied on the face, and it could last from a single day to a couple of weeks, along with redness and swelling.

For deep acne scars, go for the punch technique. It is quite like a hair transplant, where the scarred skin is replaced with skin from behind the ear, at least in most cases. Augmentation is another way of getting rid of those acne scars, wherein your dermatologist will inject collagen or fat from elsewhere and inject it under your facial skin.
